October and Almost Friday!

Today is cool outside (77 right now) for this area but the weekend will bring the hot weather back in. Next week we are supposed to have cooler more fall type weather. I'm ready for it! I have lots of things I'd like to get done in my yard before winter.

I am hoping to get my decorating done for Halloween this weekend. I bought a little yard sign with a black cat but the stake was made out of painted paper so it melted after the rain last week. I guess you get cheap stuff when you shop Walmart. LOL It appears the black cat is actually wood so I'll make an actual stake for it when I get the chance. I bought some little Halloween metal buckets at Walmart as well to use for flower arrangements. I also bought some pretty red, yellow and orange silk flowers and fall leaves to use in it. I hope to put those together this weekend. I'd like to make remembrance cookies again this year as well.

The state fair is in town this week. It will be ending on Sunday. I'll be glad to see it go. I tend to avoid that area of town on the weekends while it's here, which means my market trips have been interrupted. Luckily I stocked up and can make it till after the fair leaves. :)

I'm still working on perfecting my kombucha. I've got some new teas coming in tomorrow to try. I got a nice organic black tea and an organic jasmine tea which I hear makes really nice kombucha. I'm hoping to get some kefir grains too and start making my own kefir again. It's been a while but I'd like to start back up on that.

Halloween events start up soon in my games that I'm playing so I look forward to that. I've made some more new friends in game so I can't wait to group up with them for some of the holiday events. We've been having a blast in the new expansion and I got my griffon mount the first week. I'm really loving that!

I'm really looking forward to the holidays this year and the upcoming weekend! :D

Almost Fall

Looks like fall will soon be here. Well by the calendar anyway. It's still hot here but I'm hoping for a decently cold winter anyway.

I did get my fluorescent light fixed in the kitchen. I put the new ballast in and no more humming and no more flipping the switch several times to get it to come on. I did replace the light switch as well. I was very proud of myself! :)

I went to the market on Saturday and got 4 large bunches of mustard greens, sweet potatoes, fresh churned butter, fresh cream and ground beef, brisket and link sausage. These are all from local farmers. The butter smells delish! I think I might try making some bread this weekend to try it out on. I've been wanting to make Ciabatta bread and thinking about English muffins as well. I might just make regular sourdough. So many possibilities!  I cooked half of the greens Sunday and will cook the other half tonight since I wasn't feeling well on Monday. I still have some yellow squash in the fridge to cook too. That will probably be tomorrow night.

So I have mustard greens, beef roast, ribs, fresh cream corn and green beans all frozen in my freezer so I shouldn't have to do much cooking this weekend. I did get stuff to make sloppy Joes, hamburgers or spaghetti, whichever I desire. I've been trying to get things ready so I can play my video game that comes out this weekend. So much fun to be had!

My kombucha scoby is doing well. It is growing like crazy and I put organic cane sugar and some Oolong tea in with the black tea this time. I still have a bunch in the fridge so maybe I can drink some up this weekend. I did see a hint about if it gets too sour, add Stevia to it so I'll probably try that. It's a fun project for sure!

Otherwise, things are going well. I got my paint in from the Labor Day sale and will be ready to go when I get a chance to paint the kitchen. Got to put some tile down in the living room first so I can get my stuff moved in there. I'm hoping over the holidays I can get it done if my mom settles down. She seems to be adjusting ok to assisted living and the doc just increased her pain pill amount, so maybe she'll calm down for a bit. The living room should be nice and cozy when I get it all fixed up. Already got the curtains and liners for the windows. It is gonna look nice when I get through! Then I'll start on the kitchen. I'm really loving it since I got all of my kitchen stuff organized.

The kitties and I are doing well. I'm still walking 2 miles a day and other than feeling a little under the weather yesterday, I'm doing great! Things are really coming together. :)

Harvey Headed Our Way

Well, looks like Harvey has headed this way. We are just supposed to get rain and we have some tornado watches out. The temps have been really nice outside though.

I bottled up a couple of bottles of kombucha last night. It has a nice fizz and you can definitely taste the fresh fruit. It's still just a bit strong for my liking but the fruit did make it better. I will continue to experiment on the flavor and best fruits. I have a new batch going and know more about what to do this time. I should have a lot better luck on this one.

I'm looking forward to this weekend even though it is only Wednesday. I'm planning on visiting the market on Saturday to pick up some good fresh food and then to the grocery store. I need to go by the hardware store and get a kaiser blade and a ballast. I need the kaiser blade for clearing a slightly grown up area at the back corner of my lot and a strip of land out front when the weather gets a little cooler. The ballast is for my fluorescent light in my kitchen which has become more and more difficult to get it to come on and has a hum to it. Hopefully my minor electrical skills will be up to it. I need to replace that light switch as well while I'm at it.

This will be a nice long Labor Day weekend. I had a friend come for the weekend last weekend which I really enjoyed, but it will be nice if I can just relax by myself this weekend. I'm sure I'll do some cooking. Corn is on sale so I'll probably get some of that and make fresh cream corn to put up in the freezer. I have a roast that I might cook as well. I have ribs in the freezer too so we'll just see if the temps hold out and if I feel up to smoking some meats.

I look forward to playing my games tonight. We had a couple of new people join our little guild so I look forward to getting to know them. I got to play with one last week and he seems really nice. We have a lot in common so I think he'll fit right in. He has a bad cold though so hoping he will feel better soon so we can have some more fun. The other joined today and from what I've gathered talking to him, I think he'll be a fun addition to our little crew as well.

So that is all for now.

Rainy Day

It's a nice rainy day. I think the rain we are getting is due to hurricane Harvey but to a much lesser degree than Texas. The temps are much cooler than normal which is odd for August. I'm hoping we'll get an actual winter this year with cold and maybe a little snow. Last winter it was in the 70's and 80's a lot.

Things have been going well since my last post which was quite a while ago. My mom is in an assisted living facility and doing well. She isn't really satisfied from what she tells me but other friends of hers tell me differently. I think she just likes to complain. They give her all her meds and make sure she has 3 meals a day which was way better than what she was doing on her own. They also drive her to all her doctor's appointments and keep up with them. She has a nice little apartment and nice furniture that I bought for her. Knowing she is ok and has people that take care of her has taken a huge burden off of me.

I'm starting to get a lot done around the house now. I'm feeling much less stressed and am walking 2 miles a day 4 or 5 days a week. I've been organizing and scrubbing my kitchen down. So nice to have things orderly and clean! I've made pickles this summer and put up lots of fresh cream corn, green beans and fruit like strawberries in my freezer. I've also cooked a lot of fresh veggies this year as well like squash, zucchini, eggplant, roasted peanuts, new potatoes and such. I'm soooo enjoying all the fresh foods this year!

I got the outside of the house mostly painted. Got a bit more to work on when the weather cools off but it looks really nice. I've been getting my yard in shape too. Well, before it got hot. I got a lot of goldenrods and other weeds cleaned out of the flowerbeds. I still need to do much more weeding and rearranging in the yard but again, when it gets cooler and I'm not putting up veggies, I'll get to that.

I made a nice flowerbed with Dianthus in various pinks. So pretty! I'm hoping to get the rose bed in shape this fall. I've got a couple of bushes to plant and have some old ones that need some help. I'm also hoping to get some baby fig trees started.

Of course, I'm still playing various video games with my friends. We have a really good group of people that I look forward to being with in the evenings and some on the weekends. We have lots of fun and laughter and they are all great players too! If one of us can't do something, usually one of the others can and will help you through it.

I've been spending more time with local friends as well and making a few new ones. Some of us have started going to the local market on the weekend. I've only been going a few weekends but it is such a nice outing and you get nice fresh food as well. One of the local cattle farmers comes there regularly and he has some of the best meats. He has cattle and pigs and the sausage is wonderful! The ground beef is awesome as well and you can tell it is truly grass fed from the smell when it cooks.

I've also been getting some Kombucha from the lady at the market. She makes wonderful flavors and I've taken an interest in making my own. It's so much better than GT's and others that you get in the store. I currently am making my first real batch of kombucha. My friend brought me a jar of hers and instead of drinking it, I let it go when I saw a little scoby starting in it. The scoby which stands for symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast is what makes the kombucha into the lovely fermented and nutritional drink.  My scoby is growing like crazy! I plan to bottle the kombucha and try a second ferment soon. So excited!

Things are going well at work. I finally got the office I wanted and have 2 wonderful ladies that have offices next to mine.

My kitties are doing great too! Everyone gets along for the most part. Tigger is my foodie kitty. He loves to try new dishes with me. He wants to taste everything and is quite clear when he deems it unfit to eat. He is also quite clear on when he thinks it is awesome. LOL

That is about all for now. Just thought I'd post an update since it'd been a while.

Hump Day at Last!

Well I'm finally making progress toward the weekend! Seems like this has been a long week. It sure has been quiet though and that is really nice for a change. The co-worker in the office next to mine is finally gone! I've put up with her for years and she has a horrible personality. Whenever I had to deal with her, she was always very hateful to me. She ended up getting another higher paying position in another department that isn't in the same building I am in. That seems to be the way around here. Those that are asses to everyone and are bad at their job get promoted while the loyal employees that do a good job get stuck in that job for years with no promotion in sight. The only sense I can make out of it is that the only way they can get rid of a bad employee is to offer them a position with more money and "pass the fucktard" to some other poor unsuspecting soul. Oh well. Still glad she is gone and I hope she doesn't get fired before her job here is filled. She is already making enemies at her new job and she just started on Monday! Guess it wasn't just me.

I was off last Friday and enjoyed having another long weekend. I won't have to work a 5 day week due to holidays and my regular off days until the 2nd week of December and then won't have to work one till next year. I am still waiting to hear what days we will get off for Christmas and New Year's so I'm just hoping for 2 days for Christmas and 2 for New Year's so I can take off just a few days and have a long run of days off. I always look forward to this time of year and having some time to relax and rejuvenate.

Last weekend I bought some tool bags and a small toolbox for my stuff that I have kept in my dresser drawer for years. My dad never was good at taking care of tools so I had to hide mine in my drawer. Well, dad has been dead since 2007 and my collection of tools has grown larger so it was time to get some storage. I'm still working on getting the screws and odd pieces sorted but I should have an actual drawer for clothes and such soon.

Seems like I always have a lot to do around the house. I see the roof needs to have some limbs taken off it, the gutters need cleaning, the gate needs fixing, still haven't done the molding around the living room from last year, need to replace some tiles in my living room, need to clean up my sitting area and this weekend I need to replace my passenger side mirror and adjust the windshield wipers. Those are just a few of the things that need doing. I had intended to get some of this done earlier this year but with the tooth problems and my unexpected trip to the ER which turned out to be a heart arrhythmia, it just didn't happen.

I guess I could get more things done if I'd stay off the phone and computer more but I enjoy talking to my friends and playing my games. I do need to work more on exercising. Well, I guess I should say, getting started back on exercising because right now, I'm pretty much doing nil. I've had problems with my plantar fasciitis so walking has been out for the last few months. This has just been a really bad year with all the medical expenses and the unexpected house expenses that never seem to stop cropping up. The rain is really starting to kick up after months of heat and drought so that makes me less inclined to get work done and more inclined to play.

Speaking of play, I guess everyone needs some and I definitely try to get my share. I play Guild Wars 2 every evening after work and on the weekends when I can. I've really enjoyed the new expansion. It is tough but I like a challenge. My friend Wolfie hasn't been on the last couple of nights so I've pretty much been solo for the most part. I offered to help a friend with the story part of the game but he declined so I went ahead with my story which was a chapter further than where he was at. After he finished his chapter, he wanted to team up but I'd already started my next chapter and was about finished so this time I declined. Oh well. I'm getting closer to the end fight and he said it was real hard and another friend had gotten frustrated so we all needed to team up. Of course this means I must try it by myself so I can see just how tough it is because I'm just like that. LOL I'm gonna try to get further along tonight.

I had to call my child aka my mom this morning to fuss again. When did I turn into a parent!? She'd stacked her sodas up in the bottom shelf of the refrigerator and the door was cracked open when I got up to get ready for work. I've been over this with her several times. I just bought this fridge this summer (another one of those unexpected expenses) and I told her the bottom door shelf is for milk and bigger items. If you stack other items behind those items, the shelf gets out of shape (it's plastic of course) with the strain of more than it can handle and the door doesn't shut. So the fridge was running for several hours and the food was just slightly chilled when I got up because the door was cracked about 1/2 inch. I also had to fuss at her about the water. We stopped the home delivery of the filtered bottled water because she got mad at them. I found a pitcher called Zero that filters the water so we fill the pitcher and when it goes through the filter, we pour it into the 5 gallon water bottles, and then repeat to fill up the bottles for the machine. Well, it seems I am about the only one that does that. She is home all day and she never fills the bottle unless she runs completely out of water. I do it on the weekend but I don't stay up in the kitchen because she is always there watching tv with it turned all the way up. I do several pitchers before she gets up or when she goes outside. So anyway, once again, I sounded like my dad fussing about ruining the fridge if she doesn't stop it and about how she is going to have to help with the water because I can't work 9 hour days and do everything while she stays home all day. Then she didn't want to talk. Big surprise. Oh well. I guess if I need to get her to leave me alone, I just need to fuss. Yeah, that won't work.

Anyway, this day is about done and I have one more day at work tomorrow and then FREEDOM! Till Monday anyway. :/

Another Long Weekend Coming

Well, last weekend was a nice 3 day weekend and I have another coming this weekend. Last weekend Guild Wars 2 Heart of Thorns came out and so did the Guild Wars 2 Halloween stuff. I thought I was going to play nothing but Halloween since it only lasts for 2 weeks. After many hours in the labyrinth and doing some of the same old same old content that comes every year, I started working on the new expansion. I really got sucked in! All the new challenges and getting glider wings! Oh my! Sooo much fun to fly! Some of the new areas are just beautiful! This game was definitely worth the cost!

I did have some trouble with my AC again. It was freezing up. Turns out it was really low on Freon. Hadn't had it checked in a couple of years so I guess that is on me. So that puts me spending over $400 in the last few weeks on the air. Other than that and my mom worrying me off an on, I got to play a pretty good bit this past weekend. It was nice for a change.

I also got a package from my friend last weekend. We call her Wolfie in the game. She sent me some lovely things for Yule. She sent it early because two of the things were edible, a lovely Stollen bread and an Italian cake. So far I've eaten the Stollen. It was delicious! I found a place that carries them online but they are out of stock. Oh well. She also sent me some moon wind chimes that are blue, my favorite color, some Thai coffee (hoping to sample that this weekend) and a unicorn candle holder which is kind of an in game joke amongst my guild. I've got a couple of little things for her so far but not sure what she wants. I do have an idea but will have to research further.

This coming weekend is Halloween and I have another 3 day one. I do have some errands to run but am hoping to get to play a lot more this weekend as well. I'm hoping I can get my bestie involved in the new game and hoping she will have some patience with it. It is tough but with a group, it isn't as bad. We die a lot, especially when trying to find hero and mastery points by gliding but it is a lot of trial and error. I've got to get her to the new area so she can be there for the taking of the guild hall. Sooo excited about that!

I'm still waiting on news of when we will be off for Christmas and New Year's this year. I try to take off a few days to give me a long stretch of days to relax, play games, catch up on some tv and just recharge. I usually lose a lot of sleep in November and December as well so it is good to take some naps and catch back up.

My birthday is in December, so I will take off an extra day for that to make a long weekend. Here's hoping my stalker won't be sending a gift or card this year. After 3 years of not being friends, you'd think he'd get a clue but he refuses to even consider that we might no longer be friends. I guess I should say she because he wants to be a woman now. I don't have a problem with people that are true transgender but his seems to be all about getting attention. He is all about drama and attention and is always a victim. Hmmm...maybe he really is a girl. I'm not friends with those types of girls though. LOL Anyway, glad I left that mess behind me. I don't have to give him rides all the time to stuff which was a long trip for me and a lot of gas and mileage on my car any more and I don't have to feed him when I brought him to my house to hang out. Hopefully this year he'll finally accept that I'm not going to come running back to him/her to be friends and just leave me alone. I've got friends now that treat me better and don't try to drag me into drama. Everyone has some drama in their life but you don't have to create it and make mountains out of mole hills.

One exciting thing is that I found my rope chain and Bast charm that I lost back in February. Now that it is getting colder and I was pulling out more winter type clothes, there it was, in a pocket! I thought it was gone for good and had ordered another Bast charm just like it that I managed to find in an Egyptian store but I still didn't have a chain for it. I'm glad to make that one the spare now because these are hard to find. They have to actually be ordered from Egypt.

Maybe things are going to turn around. This has been a rough year with all the expenses and such I've had plus the trip to the ER and having to deal with having a heart arrhythmia. I still blame my mom for that one. ;) Seems like every time I save a little money, something pops up to take it like having to get a new fridge, AC issues, car issues, plumbing and all the other stuff in between. Then there was the ER visit that cost me like $3000 or more after insurance. Here's hoping 2016 will be better!

Working for the Weekend

Here it is hump day and I can't wait for Friday! I'll be off work on Friday and can play my new game hopefully. Guild Wars 2 is releasing it's Heart of Thorns expansion and they are also starting their annual Halloween event. I'm soooo excited for both! So here I sit, counting the hours till game time.

I told my mom that she would have to cook this weekend, which probably means I'll go out for pizza and Chinese food. Mom says she does all this stuff for me but she is 85 and about all she does is to organize and wash all of the clothes she has. She has 3 closets full of clothes and some plastic bins. She is currently in the process of putting the summer clothes in the bins and taking the winter ones out of the bins and hanging them up in the closets. I honestly don't see how one woman can have so many clothes! She isn't a movie star. *sigh* She does cook some but I often have to cook it after work. She will start it and tell me she is exhausted and I have to go finish and tend to it. I'm tired too but that doesn't seem to matter. I'm not really sure what she does during the day other than sleep off her sleeping meds and putter around in the yard, talk on the phone a lot and try to get people to come and see her. She does go to doctor appointments and sometimes the store but she gets mostly what she wants (more clothes) and if I ask her to pick up something for me, it is usually wrong.

I feel like I've been fighting a sinus infection all week. I'm feeling better today but still kind of bleh. I've been taking my Chinese herbs to help fight off the infection because I don't want to be sick for the weekend. I'm also thinking about taking off next Friday for Halloween and that will give me more time to play Guild Wars 2. I also plan to take off in December for my birthday and my usual week after Christmas.

Hopefully my mom won't be taking any more emergency visits to the hospital or doctors. I hate using too much leave because I want to add a little every year to count towards my retirement. I often spend a lot of my off time staying at the hospital with mom or taking my mom to the ER for various nonsense. Last time she went to the ER, they kept her there a bit and let her go home. They said her heart rate was irregular and then it calmed down when she got to the ER and they did some tests and let her go. No meds or anything. If she goes to the hospital for her blood sugar being too high and such, she wants me right there with her but I'm getting too old to just sit in a room and watch her sleep so she will feel better and taking time off work to do it. When I had to go to the ER (first time since I was a kid), she didn't answer her phone till I'd been there about 3 hours and then she told me it would take a couple of hours for her to get dressed. By the time she got there, they were putting me in a room. She went to the room with me and then left to get me some clothes. She came back 4 hours later (hospital was only like 10 min or less from home) with my clothes and told me she wasn't coming back till they released me. Yeah, I was feeling the love. On the day they released me, she asked if I could drive myself home. If not, I could get a friend to come get me, who was at work! I drove myself home and figured if I had a wreck and died because I hadn't gotten any sleep, it'd probably be for the best. My mom is the only one that ever makes me have thoughts like that.

Anyway, on to happier stuff. My friend Jo is going to be coming back to Guild Wars 2 this weekend. She took some time off after having surgery so I'll be glad to play with her again and talk to her regularly. I'm hoping my friend Wolfie will play as well but she seems to be in a funk lately and doesn't want to do anything. Hopefully new stuff to do in the game will rejuvenate her. There are a couple of new items that I want to try for which means lots of playing to get them. I can't wait to go back to the Mad King's dungeon again! They had it the first year (2012) but not since. I'm a much better player now so it shouldn't be as difficult as it was the first year.

Ok. Back to waiting for Friday.
